‘Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord before Eli. And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent. Then the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.” ‘
1 Samuel 3:1,10 (NASB)
It is quite possible that because the Israelites were so unwilling to listen to the Lord that the word from the Lord was rare and visions were infrequent. When we are infrequent with our prayer and meditation on the Word of God, how can we expect to hear something from God? God wants to speak to those that are listening. God wants hearts that are open to what He has to say. Samuel responded with a heart open to the Word of God. We need to be spending time in prayer and in His Word with open hearts and ears, daily or even more so moment by moment.
I think I need to be more focused on my reading of the Word and do what is said in Psalm 77:12 (NASB) ‘I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds.’ I find that I am so distracted by other things I need to focus more to hear from God what He is speaking to me about. I also need to work on my prayer life. If I were to grade myself, I would say I would be a “B-.” I need to be more disciplined in my prayers.
Lord Jesus, please speak to me, I am listening. I am sorry that I am distracted by so many things. I want to hear from You and I desire to have open communication with you! Let my prayers be heartful and glorifying to you, Jesus! I love you and ask of these things in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!
