Motivated by Love

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

1 Corinthians 13:2-3 NIV

This is a very popular chapter even beyond the Christian community. It talks about the excellence of love and how love is the greatest among faith and hope.

These 2 verses stood up while I was doing my devotions today. Both verses Paul portraits extreme cases of faith and actions. The first verse talks about my faith, it’s visibility and power. Saying that even if I can hear God’s voice to the point that my knowledge uncovers all the mysteries of this world, and my faith can even be shown through signs and wonders, if my faith isn’t based in love, I am nothing.

The second verse talks about actions towards others, giving everything I possess to the poor or pushing myself to the limits. If those actions aren’t based in love, it wouldn’t matter.

In the world today, the news is all pointing to COVID-19 and how this deadly virus is spreading rapidly throughout the globe. It is huge and the modern world never faced such a problem. It is affecting lives, routines, society, business and country’s economies. Even churches are been affected.

At these times, people are having different responses on how to deal with it. As a Christian, Paul reminds me that it does not matter the size of my faith nor my good deeds if those aren’t purely motivated by love: for God and for people. Even the best decisions that we might take will mean nothing if the motivation is none other than love.

For those who decided to stay home today on a positive response on the Kanto area governors, do this not just to obey but because you love. Do not only show your faith. Do not only show good deeds. Show the love and caring for one another, based on God’s love for us.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the authorities of this country. It is been a hard time for everyone, I pray that the leaders are able to take the wise decisions in response to the COVID-19. I pray that you protect us. We see the numbers rising everyday. But you have not given us the spirit of fear, but power, love, and self-control. So, help us to show the love we have for each other, as a reflection of the love we have for you. In your name, I pray.
