My Shepherd

Scripture:

‘The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. ‘

Psalms 23:1-3

Observation:

When we put out full trust in God, we will find our needs met. Sheep are dependent upon their shepherd for all their needs. Of course, the sheep can choose to run off by themselves and run the risk of not finding proper sustenance and protection. However, under the care of the shepherd, there will be no desire for what they need. We are like sheep. We all have the option to run off and try to do things our own way and I know I have followed other paths only to find frustration and regret. Surrendering to God fully has benefits like peace, provision, and protection. Though we know the benefits, it will require discipline to learn to submit and surrender to God.

Application:

Surrendering to God’s leading is not an easy task. I know that I struggle with wanting to do things my own way and fulfilling my desires by my hand and effort. I need to learn to wait. Waiting is not easy for me especially in this age where we can get things so readily. The really important things will come to pass in God’s time when He is ready. I also need to curb the distractions in my life. These include entertainment and wasting time procrastinating to do something that needs to be done.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are my shepherd and I know there are things in me that fight against surrendering to you. I ask that you give me the strength to move beyond these stumbling blocks that take my eyes off of your leading. Help me to surrender to your leading daily and even hour by hour. I love you and choose to follow you. In your Name, Jesus. Amen!
