The Woman and The Dragon

“And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus.”

Revelation 12:17 NLT

Let me break down the chapter and its symbols.

The woman

There was an old mysticism about pregnant women. A pregnant woman should always be extremely protected, so the demon would not steal the baby’s life (or the ears, the eyes …). This was to explain the reason why some babies would born handicap or dead.

Two different interpretations is given to the pregnant woman of this chapter, one belong to the past, and other to the present and future:

  1. She could be Mary and those verses are talking about the danger that she suffered when Jesus born.
  2. She could be the church against the dragon that tries to stop her to move forward. Later this woman becomes the bride.

The dragon

He is the ancient serpent called devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world (verse 9).

Michael vs the dragon

On the verse 7 of this chapter there is a battle: Michael and his angels against the dragon and his angels. Something similar happened on the book of Daniel, where Michael says that the prayers was listened but on the way he needed to fight against the prince of this earth.

There is a spiritual warfare happening so the church is able to move forward, to survive and to give fruits. And we are not fighting it alone. And the victory is already on our side, because the enemy has been defeated by the blood of Jesus. So don’t be afraid.

“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.”

Revelation 12:11 NLT

Paul tells us in Ephesians:

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

Ephesians 6:10-13 NLT

Heavenly Father, thank you for the day you made today. Thank you that Jesus already won our battles. Help us, the church, to move forward, to grow and to give fruits. Help the church in Japan to continue to grow. I pray that your angels protect every church here so we are able to stand firm against the strategies of the devil. By the power of the name of Jesus I pray.
