Where do I Find my Delight?

Scripture:

“’Say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the yearning of your soul, and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.”

— Ezekiel 24:21

Observation:

God took Ezekiel’s wife, his pride and delight away.  God may take the things that we take delight in or have pride in away from us as a way to check what our life and hope is really based upon. It will be a testing ground for us in that when we hit rock bottom, who or what do we turn to? God may never do something so drastic like this but it is a sobering thought about what God could do this at any time. God wanted genuine worship and not a front while actually serving idols. God wanted the city that the Israelites had so much pride in, to be a place that was faithful after God, instead, they sold themselves off to other countries and gods.

Application:

What is my delight and areas that I take pride in? These are the very areas that I need to make sure doesn’t replace God’s place in my life. However, I can say that these are the very things that can easily become idols in my life. God deserves the top place in my life and by placing other things there cause God to be jealous.  Caution: Be careful of my attachment to things for they may be taken away at any time. Find security in God first! Make sure whatever I choose to serve has the power to save me. (Ps. Aaron) What steps can I take to find my delight in Jesus? 1) Spend time in His Word. Not only reading but asking Him questions and for insight. 2) Spend more time in worship and delighting in His Blessing and provision.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank you for speaking these bold words into my life. I know there are areas in my life that I place my confidence and pride in that takes me from trusting in you alone. Please forgive me and guide me in keeping you in the center of my life. I confess I need help in learning to make you my utmost priority and delight. Teach me to delight in you completely. In Your Name, Jesus. Amen!
