“Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God.”
John 12:42-43 NASB
When Jesus came to the Earth, even after seems so many signs performed by Him, they were not believe in Him, as their eyes were blinded and their hearts were hardened.
Many of the religious leaders and authorities believed in Him, but because of the fear of losing what they loved, or the fear of being excluded from a social position, they did not confess Jesus.
On this text, two verbs comes to my attention: “believe” and “confess”. “Believe” you do with your heart but “confess” you do with your mouth. “Believe” is to accept as true but “confess” is to declare.
“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Rom 10:9-10 NASB
- Love the approval of God more than the approval of men.
- Do not fear to lose things from this world.
- Believe in Jesus with the heart, and confess Him with the mouth.
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
John 12:24-26 NASB
Great Father, thank you that you reached me, and I confessed Jesus as my Lord and that I believe with all my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. Jesus, thank you that I am saved by the power of your name. Thank you for this Saturday. Holy Spirit, protect us during this hot season. Help us to be refreshed in You. In Jesus name I pray.
