Faith is Contagious

Genesis 24:12,14,26,40 NIV

12Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. 14May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.” 26Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord, 40“He replied, ‘The Lord, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father’s family.

Abraham sent his head servant to look for a wife for Isaac. He was given specific instructions that he needs to choose a wife from his family line and not from the Canaanites. The servant wanted to confirm what should be done if he was not successful in finding a wife. However, Abraham once again displayed his faith in God by assuring the servant that God will go before him to make his journey successful. This servant must have spent much time with Abraham to know about all the things that were going on in the household. He must have been there when Sarah was pregnant in her old age. He must have also been around to hear the stories that Abraham told about God and witnessed mighty acts of God which also led him to have faith in God. So much that the servant prayed and worshipped God for the success of his journey. We can determine that faith is contagious. Those in Abraham’s influence most likely had faith in God all because of his faithfulness. Though he was not evangelizing nor preaching to others, Abraham brought people to faith in God through living it.

Sometimes I wonder if I have any influence on others in regards to my faith. I wonder how to preach to others or invite others. However, what the above verses indicate, is that how we live our life will influence others. It can be in good ways or bad. Whichever way, we will know how we are living if we check the fruit. Abraham’s servants had faith in God because Abraham displayed his faith in God, thus producing the fruit of those in his household having faith in God. My coworker came to Christ, not because I preached to him, but because he saw something in the way I do things that helped him to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior.
What this means is that people are watching and listening. They can see how we conduct ourselves and if it is consistent in what we say and in whom we have faith. I find that I need to take a look at how I conduct myself and to check the fruit and see if I am living a consistent life with my faith in Christ. Faith is contagious, and people will catch it if they see how we are living our life.

Jesus, I chose to live a life consistent with my faith in You. I pray that I can make you famous in my life such that people in my sphere of influence will come to know You. I pray that my coworkers, family members, like my brother and sister and their families will come to see You through how I live my life more than through anything I can say. I chose to develop my faith in you by remembering your faithfulness to me. I love you and ask this in your mighty name – Jesus. Amen!
