“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
Revelation 21:1 NASB
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.””
Revelation 21:5 NASB
In the end, God will make everything new. New heaven and new earth, and there will be no death, no tear, no mourning, no crying nor pain, because all the old would have passed away. And God tells John to write all those things because these words are faithful and true.
“New” means different things for different people. It could be a new beginning, a new opportunity, new goals, changes, new challenges, new dreams, a new season, etc… When we think about “new” it gives us hope. Hope for the future ahead.
This is the last day of the year of 2018. There is nothing magical about tomorrow. But our attitude on the January 1st makes it special, because we want the year ahead to be better than the one that has passed.
In this way as well, we shall put our hopes in Jesus, and look forward to the “new heaven and new earth”, when He will make all things new. It won’t be temporary or just a wish, but His words are faithful and true.
Father, thank you for the wonderful year that comes to an end. Surely we had a lot of challenges, joyful times but also sad moments. Help us to look forward to your return, more than we look forward to the next year. May we grow more in knowledge and experience about you next year, that our hearts I’ll get closer to you each day, until you return. In Jesus name I pray.
