“(but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?),”
1 Timothy 3:5 NASB
In this chapter, Paul makes a list of characteristics with what a church leader should be. Among those different characteristics, he says that this person must be good to manage his own family, and that his kids must respect and obey him. So if he is a good father and a good husband, probably he will be a good leader to the church as well.
This week I talked with a person who used to be in the ministry as pastor and missionary, doing church planting for several years but a few years ago he decided to step down from the ministry life. When I asked why, he said that it was because he was a good father for the people of the church, but not for his own kids. That he focused so much in the “ministry” inside of the church and forgot about the first priority as a ministry: his own family.
There are so many leaders inside the church in the same situation, when they are more a father to the churche’s people than his own kids. This week, God is telling me: “don’t forget your family”. My family should be my priority above the ministry I do inside the church.
Lord, thank you so much for this day and the minister’s life group we are about to have today. Things are moving fast inside of the church towards a new season. I pray Your Holy Spirit leads us into this new season, as well Ps. Toru and Ko-chan that also will walk in a different path, in Jesus name I pray.
