“And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”
Matthew 17:20 NASB
The disciples had been with Jesus for a while. People started to come to the disciples to receive prayer. In this situation, they could not cast out a demon out of a boy and then Jesus said the verse above.
The mustard seed has about 1 millimetre of diameter. At the time of his speech, it was the smallest seed knowing to the people in that region. Jesus compared the faith of his disciples to be smaller than a mustard seed.
After Jesus ascension, the disciples were doing great miracles, and things that was impossible. Their faith started to be based in Jesus death and resurrection, and the understanding of the power that has in Jesus name, truly understanding who Jesus is and what he had done for them.
We will do what seems to be impossible but not because of us. The power of “moving mountains” is not resided in us but in the one who we put our faith in. Putting our faith in Jesus and let Him to direct every aspect of our lives will lead us to “nothing is impossible”.
Lord, thank you that today I can do devotions in this amazing nature that you have created. Help me to grow my faith more and more by trusting in you alone, and in your name, which has the power to move any mountain. In Jesus name I pray.
