“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Luke 12:32-34 NASB
In the verses before, Jesus is speaking about things related to financial life: family inheritance, treasures, what to eat, and what to wear. But he says “do not keep worrying” about our basic needs to survive in this life because of Father knows what we need and he cares.
Instead he challenged his discipline to leave all those worries behind and follow him 100% dependent on God.
Literally it means: a quantity of precious metals, gems, or other valuable objects. But I believe that Jesus meaning is things that we give value or priority. For some people, their treasure is their money, what they conquered. For others, it would be their relationships, families, spouse, kids, or friends.
The lesson that Jesus wants to teach is that where we put the highest priority in life, there will be our heart. And our hearts should not be in things from this world, but from heavens.
Lord, help me to put my priorities in the right place. Help me to focus my eyes on you alone and do not worry with the things of this life. Living this life in the fullest to bring you glory and grow my relationship with you, helping other to see you. In Jesus name I pray.
