“Whether we like it or not, we will obey the Lord our God to whom we are sending you with our plea. For if we obey him, everything will turn out well for us.”
Jeremiah 42:6 NLT
“And today I have told you exactly what he said, but you will not obey the Lord your God any better now than you have in the past.”
Jeremiah 42:21 NLT
The people in Judah asked the prophet Jeremiah to consult the Lord for what they should do. They said they were willing to do anything that the Lord would tell them, even if they did not like it. But it is interesting to see that once God spoke through the prophet, they did not listen to him, instead, they accused the prophet to be lying.
“Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, “You lie! The Lord our God hasn’t forbidden us to go to Egypt!”
Jeremiah 43:2 NLT
Often we see ourselves in a position of consulting God for answers or directions for things related to our lives. If the answers are not according to our heart’s desires, we think that it did not come from God. We close ourselves and only listen to what we want to hear from God.
God does not give only answers that we want to hear, but He want to teach us to learn, to grow and to trust that His plans are bigger than ours.
So if we really want to know God’s direction to our lives, we need to be ready to listen and obey Him, even when it goes against our will.
