Raised to New Life

“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.”

Colossians 2:12-14

This Bible verse teaches me so much and it is so deep.

The baptism is not just a “thing” that christians do. The baptism is a symbol (or act) of our public declaration of our faith in Christ. It is for people that wants to follow Christ, act in obedience to what he taught and to declare publicly their faith and commitment to Jesus. When we were going under the water, it was a burial of our old life; and while coming up out of the water, it was a resurrection, God raising us from the dead to a new life, just as God did Christ.

We were made alive because through Christ our sins were forgiven. Jesus paid it all.

It excites me to see people getting baptize. To see the decision they are making in the lives by trusting the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. To declare to the world their faith in Jesus, the hope they have found in him, and their understanding of God’s love for us.

I want to see much more. I want to see a generation in Japan raised to a new life, transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. People who will transform the world around them as God transformed them by changing the way they think.

For that to happen, I must invest time into people’s lives. Walking with them and teaching them to obey Christ.

Lord, I want to see more people committing their lives to you. My prayer is that you use me to help others to trust your mighty power, because this mighty power brings us new life. I pray for the teenagers that we are working with. I pray that we can make a difference into their lives, and that they can be more closer to you. In Jesus name I pray.
