Which Path to Take

Scripture

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.”

Proverbs 3:5-8 NLT

Observation

When we know how to do something, we usually start to do it, without asking anyone if this is the right way.

Once a week I work as a 便利屋さん (Benriyasan). It is a lot of random jobs. Mostly is about helping people in their homes on whatever needs they have, for example, cleaning, moving furniture, gardening, throwing certain types of trashes, etc… In the beginning I was told the right and professional way to do those tasks. I was impressed because I thought I knew how to do it before, but I didn’t know there was a better and right way on doing it.

Application

It is easy to live a life trusting in our own understanding. To make the decisions based on facts, or past experiences, or in our feeling and emotions. Usually our decisions are first based on what we think is right or best. But when things in life start to go to the wrong direction, or to the unplanned, then we run to seek God’s will to our lives.

The verses above tells us: “in all you do” seek His will, so He will show which path we should take. It isn’t the second step or if we are in trouble. It should be the first step. God should be first in our lives. He can tell us the right and better way to live our lives, not only solve our problems.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for this Saturday. Help me to don’t depend on my own wisdom but always seek you first. Not only when I’m in trouble but in every single step of my life, for all decisions to make. In Jesus name I pray.
