“However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.”
The christians of the first century, or the first generation, was known as “followers of the Way”, or “who belonged to the Way” (Acts 9:2). Christianity wasn’t a religion at that time. The christians understood who Jesus was: the only Way to come back to the Father, and decided the follow this path.
At that time, because they were a minority, they were seen as a sect. In Japan, Christianity is seen in the same way, “the strange people that preaches about the forgiveness of sins through Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life”. But as the early church impacted the world of the message of the gospel, so we can impact Japan.
How am I known by the people around me? Just a religious person, or someone that stands out from religiosity into be seen as a follower of Jesus, who lives a life according to his teachings and who makes a difference into the society?
Lord, I am your follower. I believe in you, in your forgiveness and in your love. Help me not to be religious person but to show the difference you make in my life daily. Not only the hope I have in you in the future resurrection, but also in the life here and now, so other can follow the only Way. In Jesus name.
