Rest in God`s Grace
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-20
Tim Keller writes in “Every Good Endeavor: Connecting Your Work to God’s Work, page 238: The very definition of a Christian is someone who not only admires Jesus, emulates Jesus, and obeys Jesus, but who “rests in the finished work of Christ” instead of his or her own. Remember, God was able to rest in Genesis 2, verses 1-3 only because his creative work was finished. And a Christian is able to rest only because God’s redemptive work is likewise finished in Christ.
As I`m reading through Matthew and see how Jesus serves and loves people I can literally feel how he gives rest to anybody who comes to him and gets in touch with him. I want to live today as somebody who gives his burdens to Jesus by trusting in him and his love in all situations. I need his healing touch and love today!
Jesus, thank you for your love. Thank you for carrying with us and for us our burdens. I want to learn from you. I want to live out of the rest and peace which comes from your love today!
