Put your trust in the Lord

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord,

the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1-2

Observation:

Psalm 121 is such a wonderful and encouraging Psalm:

The Lord will not let your foot slip (v.3)

The Lord watches over you (v. 5)

The Lord will keep you from all harm (v. 7)

The psalmist starts by asking “where does my help come from?”

Then he proclaims that his help comes from the Lord.

Finally, he proclaims God`s protection over “you” (his friend).

Application:

In what or whom are we placing our hope? This psalm encouraged me once again to put my trust in the Lord. And this not only for myself, but also for others. As the Psalmist proclaims the protection over his friend (you), so we are called to proclaim HIS protection and blessing over our friends. It`s important to note that the psalmist doesn`t say that his friend`s foot will “never slip” because of his friend’s ability. Rather, as he does regarding himself, he also puts his trust in the Lord when thinking about his friend.

What especially encouraged me in this psalm is the fact that the Lord does not “not slumber” (v. 3). Sometimes, especially when things don`t go as we wish, we end up wondering if the Lord isn`t maybe “sleeping”! But HE is not. HE is in control and will make sure that “our foot doesn`t slip”.

Prayer:

Thank you Lord for your goodness to us. As the psalmist, so I want to trust you in the different challenges I`m facing! Thank you also for your protection over my friends.
